  Ename Crosier 3D Model 2023-11-04
The Ename crosier is the top part of the staff of the abbot of the abbey of Ename, Belgium. The object has the status of Flemish Masterpiece and was found in 1995 during the archaeological excavations of the abbey. This digital restoratation shows the state of the crosier after being broken and repaired, somewhere between 1175 and 1390. Inventory number: EAΜ 419 Roman Period 2nd cent. AD It was found in the Theatre of Dionysos in 1870 or 1876. At the back, the biggest part of his hair has been restored. It depicts a young man with idealised features, rich and unruly hair which fall on the shoulders, and a short beard. His head emerges out of a flower’s calyx as the two acanthus leaves still preserved on his nape show. The flower as a symbol of eternity and rebirth indicates that the man had died by the time that his portrait was made. Who the depicted person is remains unknown. Perhaps he was a philhellene ruler or the descendant of a royal family who had more of a spiritual than political connection to Athens. The church of St Mary at Mount Naranco Roman Catholic Asturian pre-Romanesque Asturian architecture church on the slope of Mount Naranco situated 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) from Oviedo, northern Spain. Ramiro I of Asturias ordered it to be built as a royal palace as part of a larger complex that also incorporated the nearby church of San Miguel de Lillo, 100 meters away. It was completed in 848. Its structural features, such as the barrel vault — with transverse ribs corresponding one-to-one with contraforts at the exterior, make it a clear precursor of the Romanesque construction. The exterior decorations, as well as the use of stilted arches mark the intended verticality of the composition. It was converted into a church at the end of the 13th century.
