3D scan of a mounted skin of a snow leopard (Uncia uncia), one of the most threatened big cats on earth. Thanks to successful breeding programs, they can frequently be seen in zoos, but they are rarer in museums. This female snow leopard died in the Schönbrunn Zoo in Vienna in 1943 and was mounted at the NHM Vienna.
The snow leopard is Number 95 of the NHM Top 100 and can be found in Hall 38 of the NHM Vienna.

Cooperation with our friends at G-3D-PrintThe front cover of the jetski was scanned using Artec Leo in 15 minutes (including chalc sraying, markers, etc.) and the post-process workflow took about 60 minutes in Artec Studio. The jetski belongs to the world champion György Kasza and his team. The purpose of the scan is to make a perfect fit bespoke fabricated composite cover, therefore some reverse engineering was necessary to get a native CAD data (step) to be able to machine the mold for the composite. For this, weve sed Quicksurface’s Autosurface option to get the nurbs surface based on the HQ mesh. 3D scan of the mounted white-tailed eagle pair (Haliaeetus albicilla) from the Danube wetlands near Vienna. These birds were bagged by Crown Prince Rudolf on the 22nd of January 1889, only nine days before he committed suicide in Mayerling, Austria. The nest of the white-tailed eagles called eyrie can be as tall as four meters and is often used for many years.
The white-tailed eagle pair with a fledgling at the center is Number 74 of the NHM Top 100 and can be found in Hall 29 of the NHM Vienna.

3D scan of a mount of a shoebill (Balaeniceps rex), that can stand up to 1.2 meters. Its name refers to the enormous beak that resembles a shoe. In Southern Sudan B. rex inhabits swamps and lakeshores where papyrus and reeds grow. This material is used to build their nests. This specimen of the rare African bird comes from the Bahr el Ghazal estuary in Sudan and was donated to the NHM Vienna in 1913.
The Shoebill is Number 76 of the NHM Top 100 and can be found in Hall 30 of the NHM Vienna.

3D scan of the southern elephant seal, Mirounga leoninae. This specimen is from the Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic Ocean and became part of the collection of the NHM Vienna in 1901. Very few museums own a specimen this large, even fewer have one that is more than 100-years-old!
The southern elephant seal is Number 86 of the NHM Top 100 and can be found in Hall 34 of the NHM Vienna next to Steller’s sea cow.

3D scan of a black swan (Cygnus atratus), a large bird which is native to Australia and Tasmania. Fully grown black swans can be up to about 1.40 meters long and weigh up to 9 kilograms.
In Austria the black swan is an alien species which breeds irregularly elsewhere. In Vienna a breeding population with up to 170 individuals became extinct in the late nineties.
The exhibited specimen has been donated to the NHM Vienna in 1921 by the “Tiergarten Schönbrunn”.
This black swan can be found in Hall 30 of the Natural History Museum Vienna.

3D scan of a skull cast of the three-horned dinosaur Triceratops horridus. Triceratops lived during the latest Cretaceous in what is now North America. It was one of the largest horned dinosaurs and could reach a weight up to 10 tons. Its skull alone could grow over 2 meters in length! The name Triceratops is derived from the Greek words trí- (τρί-) meaning ‘three’, kéras (κέρας) meaning ‘horn’, and ṓps (ὤψ) meaning ‘face’.
This cast of the Triceratops horridus skull can be found in Hall 10 of the NHM Vienna next to the T. rex skull.
