An intrusive igneous rock of FELSIC composition. Granite exhibits a phaneritic texture (coarse grained). It is the intrusive equilvement of a Rhyolite. The average granite composition consists of roughly: ~40% Potassium Feldspar (Typically Microcline) ~ 20% Plagioclase Feldspar ~20% Quartz ~5% Biotite ~5% Hornblende (with the abundance of Potassium feldspar and quartz decreasing, and the abudnance of Plagioclase, Hornblende and biotite increasing as the composition changes from FELSIC towards Intermediate). This particular specimen is classified as a Syenogranite. In 1973 the inner cavern was developed for tourism then was open to the general public.
The route for sightseeing is 600 m. Together with the route closed to the public, it has a total length of 3,300 m.
Though that number may change due to investigations in the future.
Abukuma cave is presumed to have its limestones crystallized approximately 80 million years ago (the latter cretaceous period).
