Bobe, along with the other robots, was created for Virtual Robot, a personal project that I’ve been working on for several years now, with the help of friends and other fellow professionals. This is one of those projects in mind long time ago wich finally sees the light. But at last, my beloved Pirate is done.
I really love pirate´s stories since I was a kid. Reading a lot about that piece of history, I learned that sometimes is more interesting the real version than the romantic side of it.
In this case, my inspiration waved between the fictional character Sophia of A Plage Tale Requiem, (and her absolutely amazing dismissed concept arts) and the impressive Grace O’Malley (a fiery red headed Irish woman born in Ireland in 1530) who was known as a pirate and a trader that even got to meet Queen Elizabeth I.
Of course, Mary Reed, Anne Bonny, Elaine Marley and Felicia Moreno were also very important for the creative process <3

The painting is a tronie of a girl wearing an exotic dress, an oriental turban, and an improbably large pearl earring. It has been in the collection of the Mauritshuis in The Hague since 1902.
Being faithful to the original painting while pushing depth beyond the 2D realm, I am interested to bring her to life, as if she is reading the audience’s reaction, wanting to comment but too shy to speak.
