This Pounamu Toki (nephrite jade or greenstone adze) from the South Island of New Zealand was donated to Stromness Museum in the late 19th or early 20th century by an Orcadian living in Twatt, West Mainland. It is a mystery how this artefact came to be in Orkney, but in the 19th century Orcadians were great seafarers and many travelled to the South Seas on whaling ships. The grooves along the side of this adze provide an insight into how this extremely hard material was cut and shaped. A great deal of time was expended on the surface finish and a mirror polish has been achieved over most of the surface. This cast iron waffle maker was made from a pattern used by multiple foundries in the 1800s and has no maker’s marks on it, making it impossible to know exactly who made it. It is believed, however, given where the artifact is from, that this particular waffle iron was manufactured by the Terstegge, Gohman & Co. foundry in New Albany, Indiana. This foundry also produced Anchor Stoves & Ranges. Again, there is absolutely no way to know for sure who made it — it’s only an educated guess. This waffle iron produces waffles with a playing cards pattern — hearts, diamonds, etc. This was an extremely popular waffle iron pattern at the time. This artifact is housed at New Albany’s Culbertson Mansion State Historic Site and was digitized using photogrammetry. The Bison plaquette of La Madeleine (Tursac, France), represents a bison that is licking its back. It was realized on bone through incision with stone pointed utils, and it dates back to the Upper Palaeolithic (ca. 17.000-10.000 BP). It was found during the excavations conducted by Édouard Lartet between 1863 and 1865, and now it is part of the permanent collection at the palaeolithic international museum of Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil. This model was realized through photogrammetry using Agisoft Metashape (ver. 1.5.3.). 180 pictures were taken of a resin replica of the piece, and the were processed and scaled using the software tools. The morphology of the piece impeded taking pictures of its base, which provoqued te model to not be closed in that area.
