This exquisite drinking cup for atol in the collection of the Snite Museum of Art at the University of Notre Dame (cat. # 1982.053) is adorned along the rim with jaguar prints on the inside and hieroglyphs on the outside. The previously unpublished inscription is one of the finest examples of seventh-century Maya caligraphy and contains rare variants of number 9 and TZ’AK. There are no personal names or place names. The text only states that the cup belonged to “the artisan of the eternal lord”. The orthography of the inscription is rather unusual: the scribe apparently tried to arrange the text so that it would consist of 20 characters in 11 segments (blocks) with an extra visual emphasis on the word “eternal (bolon tz’akbuul)”. This was a bit of a risky scan. I was worried about issues cropping up due to any change in the folds of the pillow when rotating or repositioning it. Thankfully this is a fairly stiff pillow and I was able to successfully get all sides in a single scan.
There is a red banding issue on the back that does not exist on the pillow. I’m assuming this was caused by the texture generation process.

Here is my most elaborate and intricate costume yet, a replica of a dress worn by Queen Cersei Lannister in Game of Thrones (seasons 3-6).
This red and gold brocard dress also features very fine and detailed embroideries figuring arabesques, birds and the powerful Lannister lion.
I spent 400 hours in this work, with 350 only for the hand embroideries! (I used 20m of italian mesh, 250m of golden threads, about 1400 beads and rings…)
The 3D model has been computed from 445 Nikon D5300 DSLR 24 MPx images, aligned in low quality, with medium depth maps and mesh (decimated to 850k polys, with localized smoothing up to 15), and one 4k texture (sorry for the loss of details on the embroideries…). All retopo, decimation, smoothing and texturing is made only in Metashape.

Petra is an Arabian city in the country of Jordan carved out of the sand-stone mountains in Wadi Araba. It was established over 2000 years ago and was the capital of the Nabataeans. The laser scanning survey of Petra, completed by the Zamani Project, is part of the Siq Stability project, which is a “Funds In Trust” project of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for UNESCO.
