Currently on museum display at the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument in St. Augustine, Florida, this piece originally was located above the ravelin structure - a smaller fortification that provided a first line of defense at the entrance of the fort. This Coat of Arms was removed in 1957 to conserve the piece, and has been on display allowing visitors to the National Park to see it up-close. Today, a replica has been placed where the original Coat of Arms was found. As part of our comprehensive 3D survey, we used structured light scanning and imaging to document both the replica and the original piece. Our data is being used for digital archival preservation, conservation, additional replica creation, and for 3D modeling and public engagement. Our Sketchfab design uses an historic image of the ravelin structure from 1895, showing the Coat of Arms as it was, before its removal. Although most shoppers never pause to examine the surrounding buildings, the Meir shopping street in Antwerp exhibits some of the most awe-inspiring architecture the city has to offer. This 3D scan shows the main entrance to the Neoclassical Stadsfeestzaal, which was originally inaugurated as a banquet and exhibition hall in the early 20th century. If anything the building’s interior is even more glamorous than its exterior, and my grandmother has fond memories of the formal balls that used to take place here. Since 1983 the building is classified as a protected monument. After a devastating fire in 2000 the building was beautifully renovated and is now used as a shopping center.
