My submission for the first Low Poly challenge of 2021! The combined lighthouse and windmill provides the Lighthouse Keeper with an excellent view of the surrounding reef, unfortunately it lighthouse no longer works as intended, meaning there have been a few… mishaps over the years. Though we are assured that it certainly wasn’t the Keeper’s intention! The crows nest provides a convenient way to cut across to get those fresh seagull eggs in the morning, and the diving platform provides a nice way to keep entertained through those hot summer days. There’s plenty to do and see - a fishing platform, covered to keep you protected from the midday sun, the odd wreck and legend has it there’s a treasure chest that’s been pulled on shore! It’s a cactus made in the shape of cats, so it’s a “cat”ctus! Get it?? Anyway, it was super fun bringing Miski’s (@miskiart) concept into the 3D sphere (pun intended) just becuase I always enjoy the challenge of using outlines and bright colors. This piece, however, is a bit out of my usual format since the textures are just base colors with little to no hand-painterly work. It featured multiple turrets and earned the nickname “land battleship”. While it was the only five-turreted heavy tank to enter production, it suffered from slow speed and mechanical unreliability. Interestingly, most of the T-35 tanks that were still operational during Operation Barbarossa were lost due to mechanical issues rather than enemy action. Like a few of my other assets in the same style, it uses a single texture diffuse map and is mapped using only color gradients. All gradient textures can be extended and combined to a large atlas.
