With this study I had one major goal - examine how base color works with light while trying to stay to the color scheme of the original illustration as close as possible. In order to do this I found myself referring to the birch a lot - its white color helped me figure out light and shadow hue and value relation between all the elements of the illustration. I didn’t use textures (except for the alpha cards for the grass and moss) so I could change colors quickly. I also learned some new tricks, like using Data Transfer modifier in Blender in order to adjust normals of the moss grass to the moss itself so it would blend perfectly (more obvious in the Matcap view). In order for both sides to look good, I duplicated the mesh and flipped normals, while making them both single sided. I didn’t do it for the grass because I thought it looked better with default normals in this case. 3D Model is ready to download for free, this model contains 36877 polygons.

This is a Game Ready model of a Gas Pump I made while watching a course from Emiel Sleegers, a 3d environment artist at Ubisoft. For this piece, I followed the Game asset pipeline for AAA Games. I started by analizing the references, created a blockout, then a High Poly object. Then I turned it into a low poly object, uv unwraped, exported to Marmoset 3, where I baked the high poly onto the low poly mesh by using the weighted normals technique. Then I set the render scene, and exported my baked textures to Substance Painter, where I painted the textures. FInally, I imported the textures from substance into Marmoset 3, and set my render scene with a Turntable render. I was able to learn and to improve knowledge I already had, with some new tools and techniques taugh by Emiel. This was created as part of Ashleigh Warners’ ‘Creating Stylized Game Assets’ course available through CGMA. I completed my first draft last November, but I went back over it and made as many changes as possible to get it to a place I felt confident in sharing. This is MEEPO, or the Mega Express Espresso Processing Operator 3000. The initial idea was to have this retro-futuristic coffee-station diorama that sold a particular kind of mundane story (even if it was in a sort of space-setting). Either way, this is my first fully-completed hand-painted project and I couldn’t be happier! It was created through a mix of Blender, 3Ds Max, 3D Coat, Substance Painter and Photoshop!
