The birth of a star is a complex process which takes place in molecular clouds of the interstellar medium. The clouds (or diffuse nebulae) consist in a mixture of dust, hydrogen, helium and other ionized gases. The interstellar material is enriched by heavy elements previously forged in the interior of stars and ejected at the end of their lives in the form of dense winds and supernova explosions. Dense regions within the clouds collapse and form new stars. For this reason, these spectacular nebulae are often referred as stellar nurseries or star-forming regions. Earlier this week, in the dim light of an overcast evening here in the southeastern United States this tree became the subject of roughly 2 minutes of hasty video scraping with my iPhone.

Houdini was the primary tool used for all geometry work, baking and GLTF export for Sketchfab. The UVs were automatically generated and need more work, but parts of this look great to me so I’m posting it as yet another watermark.

The Northern Saw-whet Owl (Aegolius acadicus) is one of our smaller owls. It is a relatively common denizen of forested areas in the province, but is rarely seen because of its nocturnal habits. By day, it roosts silently amongst dense conifers, until it is discovered by other birds at which point a cacophony of mobbing calls may ensue to try to dislodge the predator. One can sometimes entice a pair of saw-whets to stay in the neighbourhood with a nest box. Small mammals, especially deer mice, beware, as you are the owl’s main prey.
This is our first time attempting feathers and we think the little owl turned out pretty cute, but if anyone has advice on how to get feathers (or anything that thin) to work better with photogrammetry, please let us know. 3D Model is ready to download for free, this model contains 300000 polygons.
