Magical Mary 3D Model

Peacewater is home to multiple food-based franchises, most notably Mary’s. However, there’s two other places, with their own food to give variety to the city, both culturally and in numbers!

One of these other locations is Peach & Happiness Palace, a small restaurant that specializes in Asian food, especially bubble tea, sometimes also called “boba”. The drink comes in a special cup, noticeably shorter than the standard restaurant cups of Mary’s. It also comes with a bendy straw and a slightly stronger lid, using plastic around the edges, leaving the weaker papery lid only in its center, where the straw is inserted.

A good friend of mine loves milk tea (and for that matter I enjoy it too) and he inspired me to make a prop for his character to hold and drink from. The prop is fully rigged for animating - the perals and the straw move independently from the cup. The sparkles are planes (with culled backfaces) and a custom material that fades it in and out based on the camera’s view vector. They add a fun little sparkle to the render! It’s not ideal for games because the perals add too many polygons that would be reasonable plus the cup and the drink inside are separate meshes (to give a really convincing plastic cup look). However, I’ll continue to dedicate to him every year at least one 3D model of something from his favorite franchise. As with Piplup, Pikachu’s textures were made from scratch in GIMP, but this time the character is a full 3D figure, unsegmented, so this is one of my first more or less advanced Rigging works along the way that I had done previously. This project was also a revelation for me, as it made me think that the style of my next 3D models would have a more cartoon or anime style, even though that is not reflected here.
