A new kobold sculpt based on a redesign of kobolds I did a while back. Trying to steer away from the raptor-like look of my last model and go for a more dog-like face. I feel the torso still looks too human, but he'll have a more animalistic stance if I ever get this model rigged. This particular kobold is named Bo, hopefully we'll be seeing more of him in the future. I plan to retopologize him in Maya, then do a detail pass in ZBrush to add in scales and wrinkles and such. Pre-Columbian Maya bat god sculpture curated in the Museo Popol Vuh in Guatemala City- Catalogue no. 2005-0032. This sculpture dates to the Late Preclassic and could likely originates from the Copan area of Honduras, bordering Guatemala. The monument is tenoned and could have been used as ornamentation on a structure. The glyphic text on the head and back of the piece relate to the monument’s dedication and ownership. This huge sculpture stands in the middle of Bordeaux (France). When I walked by, I was stunned by this “half flat” sculpture, and shot it with my phone. I was realy impressed by the very realistic rendering, although most of the volume has been flattened.
Another feature worth noting : its proportions take into account the fact that the viewer is on the ground, so that the upper part of the head is much larger than it should be , to compensate for the perspective. This is a technique that has been know for a long time, (used by Michelangelo), but it’s interesting to see how it applies here.
