The equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius is a larger-than-life bronze statue of the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius. Its original site is unknown, but it may have been part of a triumphal arch on whose attic it stood. According to medieval sources, a small barbarian figure kneeling in front of a horse was part of the statue. The dating of the statue, which was originally completely gilded, is disputed and fluctuates between the years around 165 AD with a reference to the triumph over the Parthians in 166 AD, the 170s with a reference to the Marcomannic Wars and a dating only to the time of Commodus' autocratic rule from 180 AD onwards. A cast stands in the city of Tulln an der Donau. Better photography focussing on the whole right arm and left hand would most likely have produced a better end result.
Model was created from 269 photos (probably could of taken more) shot with a Nikon D5300 (using a 18-55mm kit lens) and aligned on High in Agisoft (using medium level dense cloud).

It is a replacement for an older, folksy-looking wooden replica that was removed after vandalism in the 1960s. The wooden replica was in poor shape from exposure and seems to have been lost.
When the city decided to replace the replica, I supplied a copy of Frederic Auguste Bartholdi’s early study maquette to be used for modeling.
The replica was set atop the original pedestal previously occupied by the wooden replica.
I used my iPhone mounted on a painters pole with a bluetooth remote to snap photos of the upper parts of the replica. In total, I used 288 photos out of nearly 600 taken.
