Digging Up ‘Little Hell’!
An excavation of one of Liverpool’s slum ‘Court Houses’ was undertaken in July at Oakes Street (between London Road and Pembroke Place). As part of the Galkoff’s and Secret Life of Pembroke Place project the Museum of Liverpool archaeology team worked with Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine to see what was hidden under their car park.
One of the objects found was a cermanic egg which was used in the keeping of chickens.

Like most people, I am a fan of Autumn, and wanted to combine my recent photogrammetry work with something seasonal. This was created from an actual pumpkin with photogrammetry. I photographed and processed the gourd in Metashape to create a hipoly models from which the textures were baked. This is a 3D scan of a cockroach I bought on etsy. It’s part of a larger project where I combined 3D modeled assets with photogrammetry (see http://whatswrongwithwhite.tumblr.com/image/177884973392 ). I used a lot of custom photo equipment (macro lens, polarization filters, extension tubes and a 3D printed cockroach holder from shapeways). For cleanup I used blender (cleaning up holes, chopping up into body parts, modeling deatils). For the final material design and export Substance Painter did a great job.

First test with Agisoft Photoscan on a piece of lawn decor from my front yard. Showing here a game-ready low-poly LOD group.
PROCESS
32 pictures were taken on my T3i around the owl using Magic Latern for Dual ISO (gives me a higher dynamic range to cancel out shadows). These were then taken into Agisoft for point cloud and high poly mesh generation.
Once I have my high poly I take that into Instant Meshes to generate 3 levels of an LOD group (shown in my models here). These are taken into Blender for a quick UV unwrap, then re-exported to Substance Designer.
In Substance Designer I bake down my base colour, normals, AO, curvature, and position data from my high poly to each low poly in the LOD group. The base colour is run through some AO cancellation and the new high frequency/low frequency light cancellation nodes. The roughness is created using a generator which takes the AO and curvature data to create grunge.
