I’ve been working on this project since mid January now and it’s finally finished! Everything is modelled in Blender and the textures are painted in Photoshop. Diffuse and Alpha maps only.
I thought I would create a scene with a small story behind it.
The mysterious tiny wizard was experimenting with his rare mandrake Root and home grown crystals. He found an old recepice on how to create a special magic potion with the ancient root. By trying it out, he mixes the wrong ingredients together, which turns out to be a magic spell for opening portals. This house was once belonged to a timber baron in a small Northern California city. But after the logging industry went bust, it’s owner abandoned it to the elements. While not a complete ruin, this house will need a lot of TLC to bring it back to it’s former glory.
This house was an experiment for me in tileable materials and seeing how far I could get using nothing but Photoshop for texture creation instead of my usual go to, Substance Painter. Most of these materials started out with a diffuse texture I either photographed myself or found on CGtextures.com. I then created the normal, spec, emmisive, etc in Photoshop.
I think this technique works well if you’re going to be putting the model into an engine like Unity or Unreal. The textures hold up at very close and they can be used across many different buildings or props you may have in your game. Also being able to add secondary textures would allow for more variations like grunge.

This scene was inspired by the classic Beatles song, Eleanor Rigby and Silent Hills playable teaser, P.T.. I tried to mix the mystery behind that music in a game style environment to see if I could show a nice and scary ambiance.
I made a small story in it, nothing fancy, but follow the notes.
I simply love horror, love creating, watching and playing scary games.
I used zBrush, Maya, Blender, 3D Coat, Substance Designer, Substance Painter and xNormals to create this scene.
I made a small gameplay inside the scene, it is very inspired on PT
