This is a quick creature project that I made a few years back. The concept sculpt was created in a little under six hours. Once I had a good blocked out concept, I refined the detail sculpt, retopologized the mesh Uv’d and textured it.
The surfacing for this guy was originally done with Vray in mind, but with a little clean up, it was pretty easy to transfer over to Sketchfab’s PBR material. I had to down res the maps significantly to get them to load however, and the Emission of the material seems to blur out the surface quite a bit.
The colors for this guy were inspired by a close cousin of the Seahorse known as the “Weedy Sea Dragon ” while the overall patternings and designs are very geomtric in nature 3D Model is ready to download for free, this model contains 23558 polygons.

First time properly using Substance Painter - Croix De Guerre 1939, given to brave souls who fought along side the allies during WW2.
Some areas aren’t as accurate as I’d like them to be due to having to work around an issue in photoshop (had to mess about with the UV a little, so there’s a tiny bit of weirdness). That said, this has been an important breakthrough in my workflow and I’ve finally entered the realm of PBR.
Whilst I do own (and quite like) Quixel, its shortcomings are mostly performance based, whereas Substance does very well in this case. The thing with Substance is pinpoint accuracy is at a loss along with important things like proper brush scaling on both U and V. I’ve yet to check out the latest version of Substance though. This is a personal project. I was given permission from Steve Prescott, an Illustrator and Concept Artist, to use one of his character concepts for this 3D project. This is a character out of the digital card game called Soul Spark. It’s been a wonderful journey and I’m sincerely pleased as to how it turned out in the end.
