My first attempt at handpaint (well, months ago I did one with the mouse, but that doesn’t count :P), and I’m really really satisfied with the mood of the scene and the result :D It’s quite a change from my usual style.
It began as an approach to modeling in 3dsMax with the Master Sword, then with the shield… and I couldn’t resist, I had to make the scene. Textured and animated with Blender.

This was my summer project before starting second year at DMU Game Art, although due to some module mix up, I spent about 3 weeks revisiting it on and off. The brief was to make a 10m x 10m realistic-style castaway island, using substance painter to texture. I originally planned to do a pirate-themed island and made extra props, but realised that they just didn’t work at all with the scene. Instead I’ve kept it very basic and natural. I am very excited to share this treasure chest I made for Jordan Power’s Brushforge mentorship. I created this chest over the past 8 weeks, from concept to model to textures. My goals for this project were to improve upon my concept/design skills, continue to push my texture painting and work in some animation.
