What you get
This model is game ready, VR ready, and looks great in renders! The rig is designed to work in Untiy and VR chat, but will work in most 3D software. The cape is rigged with a series of bones to make Dynamic Bone simulation possible, but you can overide that in your software of choice real time cloth sims. The lightsaber blade is rigged to be fully controlable through animation or scripting.
Incudes the Darth Vader model, Darth Vader lightsaber hilt and blade models, full texture sets in up to 4k resolution, custom made punchcard texture for the animated lights, custom unity shaders (Built in render pipline, shaderforge editable). Vader is fully rigged and fully UV’d. I’m proud to finally present a project I’ve been working on since 2015: A diorama scene depicting the Battle of Hoth from “Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back”.
My ultimate goal was to present drama and emotion through percieved detail while limiting my polycount as much as possible; Putting weight and motion into each hand-posed character to mimic the feeling one might get looking at a table with wargaming miniatures.
The concept was partially inspired by the Halo 3 “Believe” ad series.
Workflow:
No external textures were used, only vertex color painting and some baking for PBR compatability and reduced file size.
Done 100% in Blender3D.
What I Learned in the Process:
Getting to extensively use vertex painting was one of the most fun aspects of this project. I also gained a lot of experience in basic character modelling, and until now, I had never used Blender’s rigging system.
I gained so much more confidence in Cycles materials, and particle effects as well.
