Modelled in Houdini. High-poly in Zbrush, Textured in Substance. Making this model helped me to better understand some of the tools available to me and has improved my overall workflow in a number of ways. Specifically organization of assets and textures, and project management. I'm still coming to terms with houdini so having multiple pieces and texture sets made things just complicated enough to get me thinking about the structure of my scene, the importance of proper naming conventions and generally just where my objects in my scene were in terms of where things were coming from and where they were going, i.e. input/ output. Quick scan of a mushroom found near Oxford. It belongs to the Agaricus genus. Not sure which species.
Based on a total of 228 x 12MP photos, acquired in the field with a smartphone camera in September 2020.
Top and bottom sides were scanned and processed separately, requiring manual mesh alignment and UV mixing. Set up as 2 x 4K PBR texture sets. Raw mesh decimated to around 2M vertices, and further retopologized as quads, down to 6.5K. Manual UV unwrapping, with only 7 islands.

This time I wanted to simply enhance the stylised look with some complimentry lighting, and a nice vibrant sunsent seemed to work a treat!
Beyond the basic light setup, I added a background to match my colour scheme and a shadowcatcher to grab those long end of day shadows.
