A new version of this model has been uploaded with a more accurate texture. Surface scan of a Galapagos giant tortoise from the D’Arcy Thompson Zoology Museum at the University of Dundee. Chelonoidis nigra (originally catalogued as Testudo elephantopus) - Galapagos Giant Tortoise. Length = 82cm. Scanned with an Artec Eva surface scanner. The resulting file is exported as an obj. and imported into Zbrush. Texture is added from photographs using the Spotlight function and Polypainting. Because of it’s appearance, and it’s active behaviour during the halloween season, it’s often mistaken for a large pumpkin in the dark, hence it’s name.

Cooperation with our friends at G-3D-PrintThe front cover of the jetski was scanned using Artec Leo in 15 minutes (including chalc sraying, markers, etc.) and the post-process workflow took about 60 minutes in Artec Studio. The jetski belongs to the world champion György Kasza and his team. The purpose of the scan is to make a perfect fit bespoke fabricated composite cover, therefore some reverse engineering was necessary to get a native CAD data (step) to be able to machine the mold for the composite. 3D scan of a fossilized ammonite from the Lower Albian (Lower Cretaceous). The mother-of-pearl shell is still visible, which makes this piece special. This ammonite was found in Ambatolafia within the Mahajanga Basin in the northwest of Madagascar. Take a look at a 3D scan of a big block full of fossilized ammonites from the same location here.
This fossil cannot be found in the exhibition of the NHM Vienna. Some other beautiful specimens of this kind can be found in Hall 8 of the NHM Vienna.
