At this time several large blocks from the upper courses of the Western High Gate were intentionally toppled and subsequently buried under rubble and debris. Apparently forgotten when the gate was later dismantled and its stone recycled, the blocks in this section and Section 20 were discovered during Hölscher’s initial survey.

This is a diorama created from one of Jenny Brozek’s concepts ‘The Gate’ found on Artstation. I really loved the concept when I saw it and was desperate to make it in 3D. It was a really nice project to sink time and effort into and I learnt a lot throughout the process. I created the model in Maya, Textured in Substance Painter to get the basic textures and colours down before taking the maps into Photoshop to start the painting process. I appreciate Jenny for letting me make her awesome concept come alive in 3D and I hope you guys like it too :).

This project feels like the reimaging of two separate projects I’ve done in the past. Mountain top castle, and lighthouse island. Both projects that at the time I was pleased with, but looking back on I felt weren’t my best.
I liked their premises a lot so I went ahead and merged the two together. Thus Castle Island was born!
Now for this scene, I did something I don’t often do when It comes to modelling scenes. I purchased pre-existing work. I know! Crazy, but I was having a strange amount of trouble modelling grass, I couldn’t get anything that looked “grass” you know?
I found an awesome little collection pack of low poly natural and organic models. Something I do tend to struggle with making so I was in awe that I found something that fit my style and could be a great leg up in terms of things I struggle with. Definitely going to see if I can leverage these assets in the future. Moszna Castle is a beautiful example of eclectic architecture located in the small village of Moszna in southwestern Poland. It was built in the 18th century, although traces of older cellars have been discovered in the gardens.
The central part of the castle is an old Baroque palace, which was partially destroyed by fire in 1896 and reconstructed in the same year by Franz Hubert von Tiele-Winckler. The height of the castle and the numerous turrets and spires give the impression of verticalism, and the whole castle contains exactly ninety-nine turrets.
