Cooking Through History: Ancient Rome
The portioned segments not only made the bread easier to share and consume, reflecting the communal aspect of Roman meals, but also the efficiency and thoughtfulness in food preparation and distribution. In ancient Rome, white bread was often consumed by the wealthy, while darker bread was typically eaten by the poor. Today, however, darker breads, rich in whole grains, are valued for their health benefits, highlighting a shift in perception where what was once considered lesser is now often deemed healthier. This is the simplest version, separated by a reedstick without rope.

This pair of mosaic fountains are to be found in the Casa del Triclinio Estivo (II.9.5-II.9.7). They were scanned as part of the 2022 Pompeii Water and Sanitation Project field school run by the University of Missouri. Both fountains are placed in front of an outdoor triclinium and, unusually, are fed by a pair of tanks above the fountain instead of the city aqueduct. A small ancient Egyptian cat head made of a copper alloy from the collection of Bolton Library and Museum Services. The head is unprovenanced, but these objects are particularly well-attested at the sites of Bubastis and Saqqara. In ancient Egypt, the cat was associated with the goddess Bastet, and many objects like this were created to be given in offering at temples and necropoli.
This cat head features pierced ears and finely detailed eyes which may have held some form of inlay.

Varón, de 30-34 años y de robustez media con una estatura de 1,76 m. Su principal característica es que conserva en el lado derecho del rostro, restos de patilla y barba, así como en la mejilla, huellas de barro de una tonalidad rojiza. Otro dato a destacar es la excelente conservación de su lengua y restos de pericardio, membrana que permite cubrir y proteger al corazón.
Al igual que MVG-001 y MVG-003, esta momia en febrero del 2011 regresó a la isla gracias al convenio firmado por el Organismo Autónomo de Museos y Centros del Cabildo de Tenerife, OAMC con la Universidad Complutense.
