Wooden canopic chest of Yuya from the Tomb of Yuya and Thuya (KV46), Valley of the Kings, Egypt. This wooden chest contained four alabaster canopic jars, each containing the mummified inner organs of Yuya. The chest is currently on display in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo. Yuya and Thuya were the father and mother of Queen Tiye, the great royal wife of Amenhotep III of the 18th Dynasty. The tomb was discovered virtually intact in 1905 by James Quibell and Theodore M. Davis. Created from 90 photographs (Canon EOS Rebel T7i) using Metashape 1.6.1 and Blender 3D 2.8. Blender was used to fix some minor aspects of the geometry and texturing caused by the lighting conditions in the museum. The provenance of this coffin is uncertain, but experts believe it to have been produced at el-Hibeh in Middle Egypt, sometime between 664 and 330 BCE. It has several unique iconographical features that allow experts to determine its origin and relative date.
The names on the coffin are a little bit difficult to translate because of the way the glyphs are stacked together, and because the filiation of the deceased is expressed as it would be in Demotic instead of Middle Egyptian. In fact, there is a final glyph on the name of the coffin’s owner that experts are still trying to figure out, so the rendering of her name as Tadinanefer is provisional. Her father’s name is likely Pakhered. Her mother is Ireteru, which is a common name for men and women during the Saite period and later. None of them have any titles.

Padimut was a priest and metal engraver in the Temple of Amun-Re at Thebes. This case is in two pieces today because it was cut open lengthwise upon discovery. The linen visible between the top and bottom pieces is modern.
Ancient embalmers inserted Padimut’s mummified body into the case through an opening in the back. The opening was then laced up with cords and sealed with a coating of plaster.
