This is the high poly model of the mg3a1 I made as part of the leopard 2 mbt I'm working on. NOTE: since this is only a reletaively small part for a much larger model (a tank), I didn't spend too much time on getting the size and scale 100% percise. In hindsight I think the barrel is a little too long, but I think it will be barely noticeable after baking to lowpoly and put onto the tank model. Development of the MG 30 took place under the direction of Louis Stange at Rheinmetall’s Sömmerda office. However actual production of machine guns was prohibited in Germany under the Versailles Treaty. Rheinmetall circumvented the provisions by acquiring the majority shareholding of the Swiss manufacturer Waffenfabrik Solothurn AG and relocating production there. The goal was to acquire orders for the rearmament of the Reichswehr, which was modernizing its arsenal.
The design was rejected by the German Reichswehr which adopted the MG 13. Rheinmetall then turned to other companies and licensed the design to Solothurn in Switzerland and Steyr-Daimler-Puch in Austria. A model for Astrokill, an indie game I’m teaming up with. This will be the slower-but-beefier fighter for the Outer Belt Alliance faction.
It features dorsal and ventral 30mm turrets, fixed 60mm autocannons, and a 120mm main gun.
