Fossils are often a labour of love and this is a good example of that. Sometimes they tell a story too. This ammonite assemblage from the Jurassic green ammonite beds of Charmouth, Dorset seems to have been trapped inside a larger Liparoceras ammonite. However, only pieces of the larger ammonite remain, perhaps as a result of breaking apart from the pressure of the smaller ammonites trapped in the body chamber. There are several different species preserved including Tragyphyloceras, Aegoceras? shells and juvenile ammonite specimens. Lower Carboniferous. Crawfordsville, Indiana. Taxocrinus is a crinoid and Pentrimites is a Blastoid; both of the phylum Echinodermata. Platyceras is a Gastropod; phylum Mollusca. This specimen is a good illustration of Platyceras being commensal on Taxocrinus.
