The helmet belonged to Wilson (Jake) Crawford. He had 30 years of service. Many of those years was at Station 32 in Broad Ripple (which is now on the historic register). He went up through the ranks to Captain. He was chauffeur for Jesse (Boots) Hutsell (Division Fire Chief) around 1970 and then spent his remaining years at Station 14, near the Children’s Museum. He passed away suddenly the year he was to retire (Sept. 1979).

One of the oldest helmets in our collection, Many photos from the 1920’s seemed to be leather and did not have shields on the front indicating what company it was from. Circa 1920’s. Leather Helmet, is apart of the Indianapolis Fire Fighters Museum collection.
