Al ocurrir la conquista española en el siglo XVI, estas fueron fundidas junto con otras tantas riquezas orfebres. Algunos excavaciones arqueológicas y hallazgos fortuitos han expuesto la variedad de esta producción de oro, plata o cobre, que respeta cánones estilísticos estandarizados. Algunas estatuillas halladas en contexto aún conservaban su vestimenta en miniatura, adornos en fibras animales, vegetales y plumas (Núñez-Regueiro et al., 2017).
