Approximately 15 cm x 8 cm Basket Handle Egypt Land of Goshen New Kingdom PeriodFrom the excavation at Mendes in the Delta region known as the Land of Goshen an important grain and fiber growing region of northern Egypt. This piece is likely from the later period of this site and is associated with the farmers who worked the fields to supply the Temple Complex of Mendes (the Ram-headed diety. This is from a private collection. This piece was probably created during the equivalent Late Archaic time period in the SW USA. Archaic hunter gatherers had not yet made the transition to agriculture, had no written language and no pottery.
