Catalog number Lzzz/3295 The aurochs is an extinct cattle species and was one of the largest herbivores in the Holocene. In southern Sweden, the aurochs was present during the Holocene climatic optimum until at least 7,800 years BP. The gradual extinction of the aurochs in Central Europe was concurrent with the clearcutting of large forest tracts between the 9th and 12th centuries. 3D scan of a skull and mandible of the mosasaurid Platecarpus coryphaeus. He was an aquatic predator during the late Cretaceous, living about 81–85 million years ago. Mosasaurids are members of the order Squamata and are therefore relatives of lizards and snakes. Fossils of Platecarpus are found predominantly in North America, but were perhaps also occurring in Europe, Africa & New Zealand.
This skull of Platecarpus coryphaeus will be on display in the upcoming exhibition “CineSaurs” that opens on October 19, 2021 at the NHM Vienna.
