A WWII radar station on Ward Hill, Fair Isle, it was a Coast Defence U-boat (C.D.U.) station which was the naval version of the R.A.F.’s Chain Home Low (C.H.L.) radar. Radar was used here to track shipping and surfaced submarines and at longer distances aircraft. Something that makes this site unusual is that parts of the antennas and their turntables still survive here. After the war the site was partially dismantled then some buildings/structures blown up with explosives. Damage to the floors indicate where some of the charges were set.
Fair Isle is situated about half way between the Orkney Isles and the Shetland Isles off the north coast of Scotland.

This exquisite drinking cup for atol in the collection of the Snite Museum of Art at the University of Notre Dame (cat. # 1982.053) is adorned along the rim with jaguar prints on the inside and hieroglyphs on the outside. The previously unpublished inscription is one of the finest examples of seventh-century Maya caligraphy and contains rare variants of number 9 and TZ’AK. There are no personal names or place names. The text only states that the cup belonged to “the artisan of the eternal lord”. The orthography of the inscription is rather unusual: the scribe apparently tried to arrange the text so that it would consist of 20 characters in 11 segments (blocks) with an extra visual emphasis on the word “eternal (bolon tz’akbuul)”. This object forms part of the Galloway Hoard, the richest collection of rare and unique Viking-age objects ever found in Britain or Ireland. The late 14th century alabaster tomb of Goronwy ap Tudur and his wife Myfanwy, prominent members of the family which gave rise to the Tudor dynasty, is located at St Gredifael’s church in Penmynydd, Anglesey. When the tomb chest was originally carved it would undoubtedly have been one of the finest monuments of its time. It was originally situated in the friary in Llanfaes but following the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 1530s, the tomb chest was dismantled and moved to its current location at St Gredifael’s near to the original family home of the Tudors.
The model was commissioned by the Church in Wales and completed by Gwynedd Archaeological Trust in 2014, prior to conservation work on the tomb and repairs to the church.
