The relics, known as the Mjölnir (Mjöllnir) amulets, appear to depict hammers, which historians have linked to the Norse god Thor . However, this could not be concluded with certainty for a very long time as their shapes are not conclusive and none of them contained inscriptions revealing their identity. But things changed in 2014, when one amulet was found with a clear indication describing what the pendant is trying to depict. That artifact was found in Købelev, on the Danish island of Lolland . It was the first of its kind to be discovered with an inscription. The runic text reads “Hmar x is”, which translates to “this is a hammer”. Cast in bronze, and likely plated with silver, tin, and gold, the 1,100-year-old pendant shows that Thor’s myth deeply influenced Viking jewelry . The Skuldelev ships are a group of five well preserved 11th century ships from the Viking period, found in the Roskilde Fjord in Denmark near the town of Skuldelev. Skuldelev 2 was a large ocean going longship, a war vessel probably known as a Skeid - the type of vessel also known in the sagas as “dragon ships”. From analyzing the wood of the ship archaeologists were able to determine the ship had been built in Ireland around the 1040’s CE, the furthest away of all the Skuldelev ships. This digital recreation is based on the ‘The Sea Stallion from Glendalough’, a full scale reconstruction made by the Roskilde Viking Ship Museum.

What happened to the viking?
A little 3D story made for the WeeklyCGChallenge #102 “Viking Age”. I’m really happy with how this turned out.
Almost everything was done with Blender, but I also used PixPlant to get the map textures. It’s a great tool, easy to use, and easy to get great results for the Specular material workflow!

Eeey, I participated in the challenge :D It was quite fun to make. I thought of this idea that what if Athena in her fury, wanted Arachne to suffer as much as possible and instead of instantly transforming her into a spider, took her sweet time and tortured Arachne by slowly corrupting her entire body and turning it into something hideous.
I tried to go for a bit different palette ( fantasy exotic-like spiders) than what you would expect from the usual spiders, to see how that would turn out. It was really fun!
