This little devil is another result of a notebook doodle. Its definitely a habit of mine to interrupt a profile with an architectural or angular structure, usually on the head. It always just seems nicely jarring. I’m surprised its taken me this long to model a devil, as it is pretty much all I used to draw as a teenager having come across the gothic oddites of Jacques Callot, Abrecht Dürer and Hieronymous Bosch. And Doré, of course. His devils aren’t as pleasantly animalistic as the other guys’, but there’s something about the way that he congregates and arranges them in his prints that I haven’t seen done anywhere else. Be it serrated claws and sturdy bones or resourceful pelts, skin and scaled hydes. Covering fleshwound after scar after fleshwound after laceration after evisceration and scars. A concept that occured to me real suddenly one day, that i could vaguely see in my mind and I fleshed out as I went along while trying to preserve spider, bird and harpy traits or something. Thats where “weaver” came from, to refer to the weaving of webs. But if I knew vfx and stuff alike i wouldve iuncluded some kind of web shooting animation. Also found out sometime aftwerwards that a weaver is also a real bird, but not too resembling in my opionion.

Very happy with this one- a low poly pbr model of an A-wing, somewhere in between the Star Wars: Rebels and Return of the Jedi versions, complete with a low detail cockpit interior and pilot, and some of my best textures yet. The overall proportions and colorscheme are inspired by Rebels, but the engine tips, split nose and laser cannons are more like RotJ– really this design could go anywhere in the post-Clone Wars timeline.
The glass material uses the same textures as the hull, so if you had a huge fleet and wanted to improve performance, you can apply the hull material to the whole thing to have opaque black shiny glass, and then you could delete the pilot too to save on his material. On the other hand, if you want to get fancier and add some refraction to the glass, the glass pieces are their own separate elements, so it is easy to select them and add a little bit of thickness with a shell/solidify modifier in your 3D software of choice. Some lights in the engines will also make it look fancier.
