A sci-fi holographic computer I made that is loosely based off the IBM 5100. Originally created for Second Life, shown here in Metalness PBR. Textured in Quixel Suite and Photoshop, modeled in Blender with the HardOps plugin.
The hologram is static for now, it normally has an animation (in other engines) but I am still trying to figure out a good way to have both a smooth interpolated rotation of the rings on the bottom and a hard transition of frames on the main screen (only way I can currently think of is to use the frame-by-frame method here but that would require way too much mesh data for smooth rotation). I have been wanting to do this for a while because I always thought it was facinating how much this painting already looked like a lowpoly 3d scene! I’ve also always been a fan of the aesthetic of the Futurist movement.
I finally sat down to do this because I realized that this would be perfect for this month’s lowpoly challenge, seeing as Futurism was an art movement that portrayed utopian visions of a high tech future. So with that in mind, this is my second entry to the UtopiaLPChallenge, this one being in the pastel color scheme rather then the neon one like my first submission. I would have used a longer chain of buildings to be more faithful to the original work, but wanted to ensure that I remained within the 2000 triangle limit (final count for scene is 1964 tris) of the challenge.
