On January 18th 1935, Clark Hopkins, the field director at Dura-Europos, found three painted shields stacked on top of each other during an excavation. The shields, which date back to shortly before AD 256 and which were abandoned when Dura-Europos was sacked by the Sassanians, were in good condition with much of the painting still visible.
The ancient shield has been beautifully restored in digital 3D using available data from the Yale University Art Gallery and Herbert J. Gute’s watercolor painting, “Wooden Shield Painted with Scenes from the Trojan War”. This little project of mine aimed at introducing a new customizable weapon in Fallout 4. The idea would’ve been to take a revolver body and outfit it with a custom barrel to shoot 12ga slugs. Everything was made to fit into the “homemade” and post-apocalyptic design in mind, from the oil filter suppressor to the crutch stock or the aluminium can muzzle brake.
This was my first project on Substance Painter. I’m pretty happy with the result on IRay. Problem is I still have trouble rendering correctly in another engine, like Mental Ray. Any tips and advices will be welcome. Since I have no experience on Fallout 4 creation kit (only used FO3’s and FNV’s), it is unlikely this weapon will be included in the game. This modern building was created with the need for modern building to be set up in Unreal Engine (or any game engine). However, it can easily be used for an Arch Viz scene or animation.
It was built to be versatile, so can be used as a art gallery, office, museum or modern home etc…
Many of the Arch Viz style buildings (free or paid for) you can download online are made with sketchup or Revit, these are excellent tools, but when the models are exported they can be split into hundreds or thousands of pieces which is not always practical for a game engine. And whilst they can be joined together again, I created this modern building that is low poly and easy to set up in a games engine.
