The goal of this series is to check the print quality on a real object: thin shells, up to a thickness of one perimeter (dress), small elements starting with the platform (heels), small elements starting with supports (fingers on the right hand), the degree of loss of detail when the scale is reduced. Here is my most elaborate and intricate costume yet, a replica of a dress worn by Queen Cersei Lannister in Game of Thrones (seasons 3-6). This red and gold brocard dress also features very fine and detailed embroideries figuring arabesques, birds and the powerful Lannister lion. I spent 400 hours in this work, with 350 only for the hand embroideries! (I used 20m of italian mesh, 250m of golden threads, about 1400 beads and rings…) The 3D model has been computed from 445 Nikon D5300 DSLR 24 MPx images, aligned in low quality, with medium depth maps and mesh (decimated to 850k polys, with localized smoothing up to 15), and one 4k texture (sorry for the loss of details on the embroideries…). FULL BREAKDOWN “The ancient blacksmiths forged great armors from the souls of sealed demons and the bones of fallen dragons. In dark rituals this armor is bestowed and fused to an innocent and pure unnoble sacrafice. The treated metal corruptes its victims over time into demigods of incredible magnitude with an insatiable hunger for conquest” This is a model I made for fun and for a portfolio piece. I wanted to push skills, push design, try some new game modeling techniques I had been testing, and to express the glamour of dark temptations. Modeled in Zbrush R7, painted in Substance Painter 2 and Zbrush, UV’d in Haitius UV Layout, presented using Sketchfab’s awsome portable engine.
