This is a bit of an experiment and still a work in progress. The Smithsonian has a mammoth skeleton for download, http://3d.si.edu/downloads/55 . Mammoths are, of course, relatives of African elephants. But they are more comparable with Indian elephants. Making a skeleton is a a lot of work and I wanted to see if I would be able to take an educated guess and turn the mammoth skeleton into an African (bush) elephant skeleton. I am still going to ask people who know to review it, but for now here it is. I will probably use this slot to upload the updated versions. Vasa was a Swedish warship that capsized and sank off Beckholmen in Stockholm’s inlet on its maiden voyage, August 10, 1628. After some early unsuccessful attempts to rescue her in the 17th century, Vaasa was largely forgotten. The ship’s approximate position remained known until the middle of the 19th century, but no serious attempts were made to salvage it. In 1956, the amateur researcher and engineer Anders Franzén, together with the diver Per Edvin Fälting, succeeded in re-establishing Vaasa’s exact position and after several years of marine archeological excavations and preparations, Vasa was lifted above the water surface on April 24, 1961. Since 1990 the ship is included in a permanent exhibition in Stockholm. Until 1988, the wreck was stored in Wasavarvet, a temporary building that, in addition to being a combined conservation room, was allowed to function as a temporary museum. This is work in progress.
