My idea is to split the flying car into parts: the people part, the flying part, and the car part - each gets to be good at what it does without compromising too much. This new form of the Bentley “Flying Spur” is more akin to a service like NetJets than a car lease. You don’t buy the car, you own pod with the seats. When you want to go somewhere, the car part autonomously drives you to the most convenient pickup point, the flying part grabs the pod, you fly to your destination where another car is waiting to grab your pod and drive you to wherever you need to go. Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress is a four-engined heavy bomber developed in the 1930s for the United States Army Air Corps. Competing against Douglas and Martin for a contract to build 200 bombers, the Boeing entry outperformed both competitors and exceeded the Air Corps’ performance specifications. Although Boeing lost the contract (to the Douglas B-18 Bolo) because the prototype crashed, the Air Corps ordered 13 more B-17s for further evaluation. From its introduction in 1938, the B-17 Flying Fortress become the third-most produced bomber of all time, behind the four-engined Consolidated B-24 Liberator and the multirole, twin-engined Junkers Ju 88.
