In an effort to fully absorb and capture the Gearbox look with the Borderlands series and enrich my character portfolio, I chose to model out an unused NPC concept from the Borderlands 3 art book by Sergi Brosa. Very minimal guidance was given to me from Gearbox besides what limitations their current engines may be able to support and I pulled apart various character work to see how optimization could benefit a character.
I optimized this character to have customizable character design to alter symmetry options and enable re-use of character elements for other NPC characters. The only warning the victim has is the sound of her nails on the floor as she drags herself along. She will cut the legs off her victim and try to replace her own.
Normally Teke-Teke is depicted as a teenager but I made mine closer to elementary school aged. In the hypothetical game she would be placed in I felt like the change would make her creepier. She was completely sculpted in ZBrush. Her low res was made in Maya and her textures were done in Substance Painter. A high-detail model of the famous sword of Altair. It features the classic eagle head as a pommel, and the whole guard area is very reminiscent of the original sword. I took some liberties when it came to the rune-like details on the pommel itself, but tried to remain as close the the original(s) as possible.
The sword was done via classic hard surface modelling, only said details on the pommels were sculpted and then baked onto the normal map.
I gave the blade textures a good amount of wear, and went overall for a less clean “game-y” look.
The entire project was done in Blender and Substance Painter.
