A personal project I started in September that got pushed back due to university work. After finishing the game I knew I had to make something for my portfolio to show praise as I am one of the few people with the controversial opinion that the game is a masterpiece, ultimately becoming my favourite game I’ve ever played. I’m a huge fan of Joel and Ellie and I was very invested in the continuation of their story.
I chose to model the guitar that Joel gives to Ellie as I felt that it was a physical embodiment of their relationship which is my favorite thing about the games. It’s also different to a lot of my other portfolio pieces as I tend to model weapons.
I found this piece quite challenging as the sunburst pattern on the body of the guitar took some time to get right as I had not done too much hand painted texturing within Substance Painter but I am very happy with the results. A 3d model based on a museum example of a sten like submachinegun in the Polish military museum in Warsaw, the submachinegun or “SMG” was made by Edward Sitek a member of the Polish resistance during the Nazi occupation of Poland in ww2 most likely by hand and out of scrap metal with minimal tools.
The design of the submachinegun is most likely based on the famous British Sten gun mixed with the Polish Mors smg, there is also from the looks of it some Russian ppsh 41 influence of the gun as the what could be a safety, fire selector or both look fairly similar to the ppsh 41s fire selector.
