“Welcome to our sushi rest stop! You must be hungry after wandering around the city for so long." The area where I grew up in Shanghai had a bunch of cheap, delicious, fast-serve sushi stalls which I visited almost weekly. So here's my recreation of a sushi bar I saw as fitting for the city :) This was part of an assignment for Ashleigh Warner's CGMA course: Creating Stylized Game Assets (my original concept). This was done over the course of 9 weeks during the CGMA course: Stylized Character Arts for Games with instructor Weston Reid! The character blockout and sculpt were done in ZBrush, retopology in Blender and CozyBlanket, baking in Marmoset Toolbag 4, texturing in Substance Painter and 3DCoat, and finally rigged and animated back in Blender! Pretty long and arduous project - especially on the technical side. I tried very hard to make a mesh that’s optimized but still with sufficient triangles to remain pretty. I was aiming for around 30k tris, and while i slightly overshot, it’s still a personal W for me. A lot of learning in this one.
In the end it’s totally worth it to see my fella all grumpy and wobbling in 3D space. There’s really nothing like making something from scratch, from concept to engine, all by yourself. Feels good !
