It's almost a year ago that I uploaded my first ship model, the IJN Fubuki, so I decided to make one of her more advanced sister ships: The IJN Ayanami. The Ayanami was build for the Imperial Japanese Navy and when introduced into service she was one of the most powerful destroyer in the world. She sustained critical damage after being shelled by the USS Washington during the second phase of the Battle of Guadalcanal (15 November 1942) and was later scuttled by IJN Uranami. The Light Amphibious Assault Warship (LAAWS), also known as the Guadalcanal Class, is the primary ship-to-shore connector for the US Navy. Its purpose is to transport US Marines and their equipment to islands alongside larger helicopter assault ships and landing docks.
There are two variants of the LAAWS: Block I and Block II, measuring 160m and 190m in length, respectively. Block I can accommodate 100 Marines and their equipment for up to 6 weeks at sea.
