This is a model of an 18th Century English hanger sword that I made originally using RealityCapture. I’ve returned to my original model, retopologized it, reworked the textures, and cleaned it up in some spots that needed manual attention. I’m quite happy with the result, and look forward to incorporating retopology in to my workflow more frequently. The blade is in excellent condition, and the hilt is a finely crafted work of silver. Both maintain an almost mirrored finish, presenting an enormous challenge to capture through photogrammetry. The initial model turned out okay considering the conditions, but several parts of the model had issues with continuity of the normals due to the nature of the more random topology of the model RealityCapture produced. This results in razor edges looking rough and jagged, as well as the smooth mirrored surfaces appearing lumpy and unfinished. I designed a high end pool table meant to exist in the pokémon universe, embelished with one of each type of Z-Crystal in place of normal sights. The carvings on the sides are inspired by the four Guardian Deities that watch over the islands of Alola. Then, I trashed it with paint and custom carvings. I imagined Team Skull getting ahold of something fancy like this and channeled what I thought they’d do.
