Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is a mine train roller coaster located at Disneyland, Magic Kingdom, Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Park in Paris. In Tokyo and Paris, the attraction is named Big Thunder Mountain. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is also the name of the fictional rail line the roller coaster depicts.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was designed by Imagineer Tony Baxter and ride design engineer Bill Watkins. The concept came from Baxter’s work on fellow Imagineer Marc Davis’s concept for the Western River Expedition, a western-themed pavilion at the Magic Kingdom, designed to look like an enormous plateau and contain many rides, including a runaway mine train roller coaster. However, because the pavilion as a whole was deemed too expensive in light of the construction and 1973 opening of Pirates of the Caribbean, Baxter proposed severing the mine train and building it as a separate attraction.

The Australopithecus boisei skull, is the most famous fossil from Olduvai Gorge, Tanzania. OH 5 was discovered by Mary Leakey in 1959 and originally classified as Zinjanthropus boisei by L. Leakey in Nature later that year. The accepted genus name has since changed to Australopithecus, this fossil is also know by the genus name Paranthropus. This discovery spurred paleoanthropology toward a modern, multidisciplinary approach, and focused paleoanthropologists’ attention on East Africa. Unique in hominid evolution, A. boisei’s massive skull features a wide, concave face, enormous, flat molars (about 4 times as big as modern H. sapiens) and cranial adaptations for powerful chewing, hence its nickname, Nutcracker Man. This is a model of an 18th Century English hanger sword that I made originally using RealityCapture. I’ve returned to my original model, retopologized it, reworked the textures, and cleaned it up in some spots that needed manual attention. I’m quite happy with the result, and look forward to incorporating retopology in to my workflow more frequently.
The blade is in excellent condition, and the hilt is a finely crafted work of silver. Both maintain an almost mirrored finish, presenting an enormous challenge to capture through photogrammetry. The initial model turned out okay considering the conditions, but several parts of the model had issues with continuity of the normals due to the nature of the more random topology of the model RealityCapture produced. This results in razor edges looking rough and jagged, as well as the smooth mirrored surfaces appearing lumpy and unfinished.

3D scan of a mount of a shoebill (Balaeniceps rex), that can stand up to 1.2 meters. Its name refers to the enormous beak that resembles a shoe. In Southern Sudan B. rex inhabits swamps and lakeshores where papyrus and reeds grow. This material is used to build their nests. This specimen of the rare African bird comes from the Bahr el Ghazal estuary in Sudan and was donated to the NHM Vienna in 1913.
The Shoebill is Number 76 of the NHM Top 100 and can be found in Hall 30 of the NHM Vienna.
