The Wisconsin was an iron-hulled package steamer built in 1881 that sank in 1929 in Lake Michigan off the coast of Kenosha, Wisconsin, United States. In 2009 the shipwreck site was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
Career The Wisconsin was built for the Goodrich Line at the Detroit Dry Dock Complex in 1881, a steamer 204 feet (62 m) long with a beam of 35 feet (11 m) and a depth of 12 feet (3.7 m). Her design was progressive in several ways. She had an iron hull in an era when most ships were still built of wood. TT 159 and TT 286 were ecavated by Clarence Fisher (University of Pennsylvania) in 1921-1923 in Dra Abu El Naga (a site on the West Bank of Luxor, housing hundreds of noblemen’s tombs dating from the Middle Kingdom, scattered periods in the 18th-26th Dynasties, and the Ptolemaic period). In response to the Ministry of Antiquities’ (MoA) desire to develop the site, TT 159, the 19th Dynasty tomb of the ‘Fourth Prophet of Amun, Raya’ and his wife Mutemwia and TT 286, the 20th Dynasty tomb of ‘the Scribe of the Table, Niay’, were selected for improvement by ARCE, with funding from USAID. In addition to conserving and opening the two tombs in 2019 through the training of 13 conservators from MoA, ARCE also provided more than 537 jobs to local workers who assisted in clearing the site and building visitor infrastructure.

This model was scanned and produced with a research process that captures surface texture and specularity more accurately - the research is led by Michael Tetzlaff, Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, as part of a research effort that began when Michael was a doctoral student in Computer Science at the University of Minnesota. The work is now supported by an NEH grant, and the grant team includes UW-Stout, Cultural Heritage Imaging, and Mia.
