A sci-fi holographic computer I made that is loosely based off the IBM 5100. Originally created for Second Life, shown here in Metalness PBR. Textured in Quixel Suite and Photoshop, modeled in Blender with the HardOps plugin.
The hologram is static for now, it normally has an animation (in other engines) but I am still trying to figure out a good way to have both a smooth interpolated rotation of the rings on the bottom and a hard transition of frames on the main screen (only way I can currently think of is to use the frame-by-frame method here but that would require way too much mesh data for smooth rotation). The 3D model presents a digital reconstruction of a historical crinoline - a special framework used to expand the fullness of the skirt in the mid 19th century. The crinoline is presented in a historical photograph (https://spreekbeurten.info/mode12.jpg). It has 5 hoops and 20 ribbons. A new method of parameterisation was applied to reproduce the shape and construction of the hoops, ribbons and belt (for further details see https://doi.org/10.1080/00405000.2019.1621042).
