Finally finished up my first handpainted model, YAY! This has technically been in the works since 2018 as I made the model itself back then but never finished the textures. Since then I learned a ton of new skills and fixed some of the topology and completly redid the textures. I had the privilege to work with the super chill and talented teammate, Gabriel Eekenulv, Skyblivion’s Concept Art Lead. Together we produced this grand and regal set of armor. As a historical arms and armor enthusiast, I often time find it difficult to work with many fantasy concept arts. Most designs sacrifice basic understanding and practicality for “cool” aesthetics which make no sense. When I came across Eekenulv’s armor designs, however, I was in awe. His designs are grand, elegant, and “cool”, yet they maintain insights and functionality of armors, a perfect balance between “Realism” and “Suspension of Disbelieve”.
This was one of the most fun project I’ve produced in collaboration with others. Not to mention my Twitch subscribers who took part in submitting poleaxe designs, which eventually developed into the one you see. A night-lurking variant of a cyclops I challenged myself to make after not using Blender for a while as frequently. Was originally suppose to be its own “thing” but about 20% in, i I thought it could work out as being a variant of the cyclops. Had an idea of a variant like this to begin with anyways, of a more abhorrant variety in its own way. So it all worked out in the end.
