Il prezioso manufatto bronzeo del XIV secolo, proveniente dalla collezione Luzzetti, appartiene alla tipologia dei lettorili liturgici a forma di aquila documentati, a partire dal tardo Trecento, su supporti autonomi. La presenza di artigli ricurvi ci suggerisce infatti che l’originaria collocazione dell’aquila doveva essere su una sfera, oggi non più esistente, sostituita da un capitello rovesciato di incerta datazione. Grandi e lunghe ali spiegate – con funzione di supporto del libro liturgico – mettono in mostra il bellissimo piumaggio, minutamente descritto con gusto calligrafico, che ricopre tutto il rapace. I had the privilege to work with the super chill and talented teammate, Gabriel Eekenulv, Skyblivion’s Concept Art Lead. Together we produced this grand and regal set of armor. As a historical arms and armor enthusiast, I often time find it difficult to work with many fantasy concept arts. Most designs sacrifice basic understanding and practicality for “cool” aesthetics which make no sense. When I came across Eekenulv’s armor designs, however, I was in awe. His designs are grand, elegant, and “cool”, yet they maintain insights and functionality of armors, a perfect balance between “Realism” and “Suspension of Disbelieve”.
This was one of the most fun project I’ve produced in collaboration with others. Not to mention my Twitch subscribers who took part in submitting poleaxe designs, which eventually developed into the one you see.
