3D scan of a fossilized ammonite from the Lower Albian (Lower Cretaceous). The mother-of-pearl shell is still visible, which makes this piece special. This ammonite was found in Ambatolafia within the Mahajanga Basin in the northwest of Madagascar. Take a look at a 3D scan of a big block full of fossilized ammonites from the same location here. This fossil cannot be found in the exhibition of the NHM Vienna. Some other beautiful specimens of this kind can be found in Hall 8 of the NHM Vienna.
