IBM's attempt at a 4-inch floppy disk—1983's DemiDiskette In the early 1980s, the need became clear for a floppy disk drive and associated disk that were smaller and more rugged than the 5.25-inch standard which pervaded the personal computer world. A number of companies proposed alternatives, including Sony with a 3.5-inch disk, a consortium of Hitachi, Maxell and Matsushita (Panasonic) with a 3-inch disk, Tabor with a 3.25-inch disk, and IBM with a 4-inch floppy disk drive, the Model 341 and an associated diskette, the DemiDiskette. This program was driven by aggressive cost goals, but missed the pulse of the industry. The product was announced and withdrawn in 1983 with only a few units shipped, with IBM writing off several hundred million dollars of development and manufacturing facility. In the 1950s, LeTourneau Inc. developed several overland trains, essentially oversized semi-trailer trucks that could travel over almost any terrain. Their intention was to be able to handle logistics needs without being dependent on local road or rail systems, allowing them to operate in back-country areas. The US Army had three experimental units built, the largest reaching almost 600 feet (183 m) long, which holds the record for the longest off-road vehicle. The Mark II had a much larger six-wheeled cab that was over 30 feet (9.1 m). The turbine engine was much smaller than the diesel it replaced, allowing the interior to support a crew of six with sleeping quarters, toilets and a galley. It was even equipped with a radar. An additional two power cars and ten cargo cars were built for testing. The UAZ-452 was taken as the basis. I wanted to make something incredible and extreme out of this car.
Therefore, I decided to make a prototype for asphalt ring roads. The car has developed aerodynamics and a good power-to-weight ratio, so the speed should be good. When creating this project, I was inspired by advanced solutions in the creation of racing cars from leading auto manufacturers such as McLaren, Ferrari, Porsche and others.
This is the first 3D model of the car in May and the first project of this level of complexity, but I liked it, I will improve further in this direction.
Soft: 3DsMax, Arnold Render, RizomUV, Substance 3D painter, Photoshop.
