Digital 3D reconstruction model of Cambuskenneth Abbey, Stirling, Scotland showing what the abbey and adjoining monastic buildings might have looked like in its rebuilt state following an attack by the army of King Richard II of England in 1383. The abbey has an accompanying freestanding bell tower or campanile which is unusual in Scotland. The tower is the only surviving part of the original church that remains standing to this day. It may have been spared its destruction by virtue of its use as a watchtower. The exterior masonry of the church may have appeared with a much brighter, lime-washed rendering than I have shown in this reconstruction. The masonry may also have featured decorative (painted) elements but such evidence for the exterior rendering of churches from before the reformation is hard to come by. In 1518 4 ships and 260 men left the island of Cuba lead by Juan de Grijalva and commanded by Francisco de Montejo being the first sights and encounter in the Yucatan Peninsula, the Spanish ships encountered the ancient city of Tulum in which they were confronted with war.
During Mictlan, this will be one of the first scenes showcasing the dynamic and evolving scenario of what would become the beginning of a bloody and tragic war against the people of Mesoamerica.
I 3D model one of the most important temple buildings in Tulum as a way to re create not just one of my favorite ancient sites but also to lay the foundation of the history that is not much known.
